The 15th Airshow China was grandly held in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province from November 12 to 17, 2024. Equipment from the joint research project “Development of Key Technologies and Equipment for Novel AFSD in Manufacturing Highly Corrosion-Resistant Components,” jointly undertaken by Macao's Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, was showcased at the airshow. A delegation led by Xie Yongqiang, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund, and Zheng Guanwei, Committee Member, visited the exhibition for exchange and discussion.
This project is a scientific research collaboration between Australia and mainland China. The Australian partner is the Institute for the Development and Quality, Macau (hereinafter referred to as IDQ), and the mainland partner is Aerospace Engineering Equipment (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. The project focuses on developing efficient additive manufacturing technologies and equipment for large aerospace components. These technologies will be applied to produce high-performance aluminum alloy structural parts for rockets and spacecraft. These components serve as the skeletal framework of aerospace propulsion systems and constitute critical structural elements of spacecraft. They provide the essential hardware foundation for the successful execution of space launch missions, holding significant importance.

Promote R&D in Macau and commercialization in Hengqin
Macao's Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) aligns with the SAR government's policies to promote research and development in Macao while leveraging Hengqin's strengths in technology commercialization. IDQ has established a wholly-owned subsidiary in Hengqin, “IDQ Science and Technology (Hengqin, Guangdong) Co., Ltd.” (hereinafter referred to as IDQ-hq Company). Concurrently, the Aerospace Engineering Equipment Hengqin R&D Center was established under IDQ-hq, providing a solid foundation for the coordinated development of industry-academia-research collaboration. Currently, 60% of IDQ-hq's employees are Macau residents. The average age of personnel engaged in scientific research is 25. The company plans to increase positions annually, prioritizing the recruitment of young Macau talents to collaborate with the Hengqin team on R&D projects. This initiative aims to cultivate local talent through project involvement and contribute to the industrial development of both Macau and Hengqin.
The Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) has consistently encouraged and assisted local research teams in applying for the joint research funding program between the FDCT and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, collaborating with the Ministry to select high-quality projects. This initiative aims to further elevate Macao's scientific research capabilities, better integrate into the broader national development landscape, and contribute to meeting national needs while leveraging Macao's strengths.
